I’ve been pondering something I heard recently,
“It’s important that we learn to wait in that uncomfortable place of Silence…”
We are not used to being in the silence. Even when we’re with family or friends and the chatter and activity dies down, the long pause can feel awkward.
I remember shortly after I met Sue Thomas, she made the passing comment that true friendship is when people can enjoy being in the silence together. We found that to be so true many times over the years. When you are with someone that you love and enjoy, silence can become comfortable.
Then there are the times where you are praying and seeking direction from God and heaven is silent. That silence can make us feel anxious. Often without missing a beat we begin to look for answers everywhere else.
Did you know that God values silence? Revelation 8:1 says, “There was silence in heaven for a half an hour.” No trumpets. No angels singing. No fellowshiping with others or lifting of voices to praise God.
Just silence.
It’s mind-boggling.
Eternity holds Silence.
Every creature in heaven, even the angels, were still and silent.
Waiting.
“Then an angel came… and much incense was given to him, so that he might add it to the prayers of all of God’s people on the golden altar before the Throne of God.” vs. 3
If you have been given the gift of Eternal Life, your Eternity begins now. This life’s journey is God’s way of preparing us for our eternal future. He may seem to be silent at times, but He is listening to the deepest longing of our hearts.
This very moment we can begin learning how to sit still and to be silent and one day soon we will be totally comfortable in the silence of heaven and being in the glorious Presence of the One that we love and Who loves us.
Onward and Upward,
Deborah
