A Sanctuary for Prayer

A place where you can be alone with God

—Sue Thomas

Be Silent in the presence of the Lord God; For the day of the Lord is at hand, for the Lord has prepared a sacrifice; He has invited His guests.

Zephaniah 2.7

Be still before the Lord and wait patiently before Him.

Psalm 37.7

Be still and know that I am God…

Psalm 46.10

I am not an expert on prayer, but I am an expert on the silence.

Prayer Cabins: Here are our plans to build a quiet sanctuary for prayer and communion with God in Tunbridge, Vermont.

Step #1: Build a handicapped-accessible trail. This trail would take visitors down by the main stream on the property. This involves building a small, solid bridge with rails, brush clearing, bringing in several dump-truck loads of soil, and setting up various trail markers. We have estimated this cost at $7,500.

Step #2: Build first prayer cabin and install septic system. We have drawn up plans for several small prayer cabins to be built on the property. Volunteers have committed to doing the labor, so the price on this stage of construction is for materials only for a single, simple cabin. The septic system would handle the waste from several cabins, but we need to raise the funds and get it installed on the front end before we can begin building the cabins. The estimated cost for this stage is $65,000.

Step #3: Build six more prayer cabins. We hope to have a total of seven prayer cabins on the WaterBrooks property. These cabins will not all be identical. Some will be very simple, and others will have some amenities. With our current plans, to get to this stage, we need to raise a total of about $200,000.

Step #4: Hiking trails on other portions of the property. WaterBrooks is 113 acres on the back side of a mountain, so there is plenty of room for adventure and hiking. Some will come to this property wanting to commune with God in the quiet of a prayer cabin, while others will want to move around and climb to the brow of the mountain and look down over the town of Tunbridge and commune with God. We plan to build other trails for hiking across the property, including a small, simple, prayer chapel at the top of the mountain. Given that we have a strong volunteer team that will donate the labor, we estimate the total cost to get to this step to be $225,000.
